Brokeback Mountain

So, we finally went to see 'Brokeback Mountain' last night. Nice Valentine's Day date movie, eh?

All I can say is - what a sad freakin' story. Gay love story, be damned. That wasn't the focus of the movie. It is a wonderful cinematic example of convincing character development (or maybe un-development?). The anguish in the characters was completely captivating. Heath Ledger did such a great job as the internally/eternally tortured loner-type, Ennis DelMar - destroying lives along the way because he couldn't face the truth behind his feelings. I can't say enough how well both Heath and Jake brought across the awkwardness, guilt, shame, yearning and pain of what they felt for each other but could never commit to. The ending was so sad. Circle of life, live each day to it's fullest, and don't let the things you truly care about in your life get away from you.

UGH i hated brokeback - i mean, yes it brought tears to my eyes and the actors were wonderful, but i cringe and see red everytime i see commercials saying this movie is an "epic love tale".

How is it a love tale when the love was never allowed due to internalized homophobia because of societal homophobia? and i highly doubt that straight ppl. on their way home from the movie said to eachother 'wow, i wonder why he hated himself so much; why couldn't he have just let go and been with the other guy' or SOMETHING along some probing lines. but i'm sure ppl just thought it was sad that they couldn't be together. the end.

ugh.

if we didn't have such homophobia in the world then gay ppl would love themselves more and not feel so hated and judged by everyone around them.

sorry, there was a rant a brewin' - its just as soon as I hear "Brokeback Mountain" i get my own back up and have to add my 2 cents LOL
