I have posted another entry with ...Good questions. I have posted another entry with my thoughts, I think transportation has been looked at because of its complete dependency on oil, and because of the American dependency on imports, it suddenly becomes a security and economic issue.

But you also have to consider that even if there is success in convincing people to drive less or use alternative fuel sources - the generation of energy to move those vehicles/goods/people whatever requires a shift of the energy source from oil, to say, electricity - requiring more fuel for the power plants since everyone is now plugging their vehicles in overnight, or if corn ethanol is a partial solution, the amount of fossil fuels required to grow, fertilize, harvest and process the crops. Big inputs everywhere.

I don't really think Bush is encouraging people to drive less (remember when he said the best way to fight terrorism was to shop more?), only to use different fuel sources, which doesn't really address the problem of GHGs anyways. But for Americans, reducing their need to fight horrific wars for fuel sources in chaotic parts of the world is reason enough to wean themselves off of Texas Tea.MBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13376297905063624827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14434437.post-77317945161809524852007-01-25T17:48:00.000-07:002007-01-25T17:48:00.000-07:00Long time reader first time commenter:
Do you kno...Long time reader first time commenter:

Do you know if there is any research that splits out the total greenhouse gases produced by type? For example x% from gasoline,x% from coal, x% from burning yak poop, etc.
I ask becuase I find it funny that so much focus is placed on the automobile when power usage from coal fired power generation is probably doing quite a number on the environment by itself.

Just seems like something a government could 'manage' a little easier then this constant struggle with consumer to stop driving, which they don't seem to be doing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
